THE ARMOUR OF GOD

with No Comments

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (Eph 6:10)

Have you ever wondered how much of spiritual warfare is God’s fight and how much of it is ours? One mistake is to see the battle as determined solely by our activities: our perseverance, fasting, faith confession or prayers! While these are weapons, they are only effective if founded upon what Jesus has done for us.

The belt of truth is Jesus: He is the way, the truth and the life (Jn 14:6). How about the breastplate of righteousness that protects us against accusations of the Enemy? “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Cor 5:21). Our righteousness is in Him! The shoes of the gospel of peace is no other than Jesus for He has “become our peace, having broken down the middle wall of separation.. to create a new man from two thus making peace” (Eph 2:14,15). We have peace with God in Him. He is also the author and finisher of our faith (Heb 12:2). Taking the shield of faith means resting in Him His gift of faith and His promises to to us against all the attacks of the devil!
Jesus is also our helmet of salvation. He protects our minds from any doubts about who we are! “Therefore He is able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him…” (Heb 7:25). And finally, He is the Word. “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God” (Jn 1:1). So whenever we take up the Sword of the Spirit (which is the Word of God), we rest in Him and say what He says! In one sense its all been done for us. When we rise to do battle, we do it in Him! For it is in Him, we live and move and have our being! (Acts 17:27)
